Youth Climate Corps BC (YCCBC) is proud to announce that it is returning to Kamloops after a first season in 2023 as part of a growing province-wide movement supporting youth-led climate action across British Columbia.
The 2026 Kamloops team will be led by two co-leads who will work with a team of four Community Climate Action Mobilizers, Aravna Lucsama and Emerson Goodall.
The 2026 Kamloops team will support projects focused on:
Bike Valet Program – Supporting active transportation initiatives in partnership with Tourism Kamloops, helping promote sustainable transportation options within the community.
Wildfire Resilience & FireSmart Initiatives – Supporting community wildfire preparedness through FireSmart activities, including hands-on mitigation work, education, and outreach with residents in the wildland-urban interface.
Extreme Heat Response & Climate Preparedness – Supporting community resilience initiatives focused on preparing for climate-related challenges, including extreme heat events and emergency preparedness efforts.
In their previous season, the Kamloops Youth Climate Corps team worked alongside partners such as The City of Kamloops, BC Hydro, and Butler Urban Farm to accomplish a wide range of projects including home emissions assessments, a bike valet, and local food security initiatives.
These local efforts are part of YCCBC’s growing province-wide impact. As the organization continues to expand, YCCBC is equipping young people with the skills, experience, and confidence needed to address climate challenges while helping build stronger, more connected, and more resilient communities across British Columbia.
Community leaders and government representatives shared their support for the continued growth of the Youth Climate Corps program:
“The City of Kamloops is proud to welcome Youth Climate Corps BC back to our community. The team’s work on wildfire preparedness, climate resilience, and active transportation will provide tangible benefits for residents while giving young people valuable opportunities to develop skills, build connections, and contribute to the future of our city.” — Deputy Mayor Dale Bass, City of Kamloops
