YOUTH CLIMATE CORPS BC - RICHMOND
The 2026 Richmond team will focus its collaboration with the City of Richmond on exciting projects such as public and curbside waste audits, wildlife waterway marking, invasive species removal, community education and engagement, and ecological restoration and monitoring. These projects will benefit both the City and its residents while promoting climate resilience, environmental education, and local youth skills and professional development.

Territorial acknowledgment
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation, Tsawwassen First Nation, Katzie First Nation. For thousands of years, the Musqueam people have lived along the Fraser River estuary, caring for the interconnected lands, waters, and ecosystems that continue to sustain diverse communities today.
Local relationship / Values
YCCBC is grateful to live, learn, and work on Musqueam territory. We recognize that meaningful climate action and environmental stewardship are strengthened through respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and by learning from Indigenous knowledge systems and practices. As we work alongside the City of Richmond and local community partners, we are committed to approaching our projects with humility, reciprocity, and a willingness to continually learn.
Climate Connection/Commitment
We recognize that the climate crisis and the health of our ecosystems are deeply interconnected, and that Indigenous stewardship and knowledge continue to offer important guidance for building resilient communities. We strive to contribute to environmental stewardship in ways that honour the lands, waters, and communities that have been cared for by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial. Our commitment includes:

- invasive species removal (biodiversity loss)
- water audit (climate change)
Call to Action
The Richmond team invites you to continue your own learning by exploring the history and ongoing stewardship of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation, learning about the ecological importance of the Fraser River estuary, and seeking opportunities to support Indigenous-led environmental initiatives and community events. We recognize that reconciliation and decolonization are ongoing commitments, and we remain dedicated to learning, growing, and taking meaningful action together.

Within Youth Climate Corps, crew members are between 17-30 years old; they earn wages, gain work experience, build networks, and develop themselves personally and professionally. Meanwhile, they complete projects that both benefit their own communities and support global efforts to act on the climate crisis.
