EMPOWERING YOUTH VOICES & ACTIONS

Young people will be impacted throughout their lifetime by the consequences of the climate crisis, and it is crucial that their needs and views be heard and acted upon.

Youth Climate Corps BC gives a place for youth to be heard and make change happen.

We can no longer rely on youth volunteers to solve the climate crisis. Young people deserve dignified, paid work to address the largest challenge we have faced as a society. That is why Youth Climate Corps BC provides paid work and training for young people in community climate action. By empowering and connecting youth and organizations, we build networks that are committed to climate action. This gives young people agency over the future of their communities. These projects tackle much-needed community adaptations to a heating planet while also providing the means for reducing emissions.

Youth Climate Corps BC leadership training focuses on mentorship, peer-to-peer learning, and experiential education. Participants leave Youth Climate Corps with agency, skills and experience to work in fields related to climate action. Alumni have gone on to work for non-profits, and regional districts as climate interns and taken leadership roles in climate activist organizations.

We are committed to maintaining and growing respectful relationships in every region where we work.

YCCBC recognizes that colonization has deeply disrupted Indigenous Peoples’ relationships with their lands, communities, and cultural practices. We understand that the climate crisis is rooted in ongoing systems of colonialism and resource extraction—systems that became possible through the dispossession of Indigenous Peoples from their homelands.

We believe that Indigenous sovereignty is essential to building just futures and liveable worlds. YCCBC is committed to listening, learning, and walking in solidarity with Indigenous communities and to supporting Indigenous-led climate action across the province.

ABOUT US

Youth Climate Corps BC develops the climate leaders of tomorrow by training a workforce of young people who know how to work together, communicate powerfully, and get things done on projects that contribute to climate resilience in communities across British Columbia.
