Youth Climate Corps BC (YCCBC), in partnership with the District of Squamish, is proud to launch the 2026 Squamish Youth Climate Corps program as part of its province-wide summer season.
Now entering its third season in Squamish, the program continues to provide youth with paid, hands-on opportunities to contribute to meaningful climate action projects in their own communities while developing leadership and workforce skills for the future.
This season’s Squamish Youth Climate Corps team will be led by Co-Leads Christina Stevenson and Nina Sky Robertson, who will welcome and support four Climate Action Mobilizers throughout the summer as they work on local climate resilience, education, and community engagement initiatives across Squamish.
Projects this season will focus on:
FireSmart and wildfire preparedness initiatives
Residential air sealing and energy efficiency support with an equity lens
Zero-waste programming and community outreach
Ecological restoration and environmental monitoring
Sustainable transportation education and engagement
Recycling contamination reduction initiatives
The team will also support several community events throughout the season, including the Re-Use-It Fair on June 6, Go By Bike Week (May 30–June 5), and Open Street Day on July 25.
Last year, the Squamish Youth Climate Corps team completed 535 Climate Action Days while working alongside organizations including Talaysay Tours, Squamish River Watershed Society, Squamish CAN, Squamish Streamkeepers, and Retrofit Assist. Projects included native species planting in the Squamish Estuary, FireSmart outreach in evacuation alert zones, support for residential recycling tote audits, and community-based sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing waste and strengthening climate resilience.
These local efforts are part of YCCBC’s growing province-wide impact. As the organization continues to expand, YCCBC is equipping young people with the skills, experience, and confidence needed to address climate challenges while helping build stronger, more connected, and more resilient communities across British Columbia.

Community leaders and government representatives shared their support for the continued growth of the Squamish Youth Climate Corps program:
