Youth Climate Corps BC (YCCBC) is partnering with Urban Climate Leadership (UCL) to offer three full-time employment opportunities for young people across British Columbia.

These six-month positions offer young people aged 17–30 the opportunity to gain professional experience, develop transferable skills, and contribute to initiatives addressing challenges facing communities across the province. Through the partnership, successful applicants will work four days per week with UCL and one day per week with YCCBC, gaining experience across both organizations.

The three available positions are:

Program Assistant, Keep It Cool

Support an initiative working to transition 5,000 low-rise apartments and condos in BC to energy-efficient heat pumps. The role involves research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and outreach to help advance building improvements that support residents' health, safety, and resilience during extreme temperatures.

Program Assistant, Data Centres

Contribute to research and policy analysis examining the local impacts of data centre development. The role explores how data centres interact with land, water, energy, and local decision-making, while supporting municipal engagement, stakeholder dialogues, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Communications Assistant

Support UCL's communications and knowledge-sharing work through content creation, digital communications, and the development of accessible resources. The role offers experience translating research and policy into engaging content for a broad audience.

All three positions offer opportunities for mentorship, professional development, and collaboration with municipal governments, community organizations, and other partners. Applicants will also participate in YCCBC programming, including career and leadership development and engagement with youth workforce development initiatives across BC.

We are committed to maintaining and growing respectful relationships in every region where we work.

YCCBC recognizes that colonization has deeply disrupted Indigenous Peoples’ relationships with their lands, communities, and cultural practices. We understand that the climate crisis is rooted in ongoing systems of colonialism and resource extraction—systems that became possible through the dispossession of Indigenous Peoples from their homelands.

We believe that Indigenous sovereignty is essential to building just futures and liveable worlds. YCCBC is committed to listening, learning, and walking in solidarity with Indigenous communities and to supporting Indigenous-led climate action across the province.

We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions.

ABOUT US

Youth Climate Corps BC develops the climate leaders of tomorrow by training a workforce of young people who know how to work together, communicate powerfully, and get things done on projects that contribute to climate resilience in communities across British Columbia.
