Youth Climate Corps (YCC) alumna Katie Martin has been named one of just seven recipients of Nature Canada’s 2025 Young Nature Leaders Grant. This grant supports youth across the country to design and deliver community-based projects rooted in nature and sustainability.

Katie worked for Youth Climate Corps three years ago as part of Wildsight’s Kootenay-based YCC program. Since then, she has built an impressive career in environmental leadership.

Today, she serves as the Lake Blitz Program Lead with Living Lakes Canada, where she coordinates a citizen-science initiative that empowers volunteers of all ages to monitor freshwater lakes. Participants collect data on temperature, clarity, and shoreline health, all while fostering mentorship, education, and stronger connections to water stewardship.

We’re proud to see YCC alumni like Katie leading the way in climate and conservation. Read more about Katie in the Kimberley Bulletin.
