All summer long, the YCCCBC Courtenay crew has been hard at work mapping the biodiversity of the Morrison Creek Headwaters.

Earlier this week, their efforts paid off in a big way. In just one day, the team removed an impressive 270 kg of invasive Scotch broom from the park. This highlights the value of the detailed information they collected in advance, which not only guided the removal effort but will also support future invasive species management.

In the photos, you can see the crew installing trail cameras and Audio Recording Units as part of their biodiversity monitoring. By identifying the plant and animal species currently present, they’re establishing a baseline that will help track changes in the ecosystem over time as the site continues to be restored and protected.
