Ryan Koelwyn

I live in the unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan peoples, with deep roots and lasting connections to the Kootenays—where I spent much of my childhood in the unceded ancestral territories of the Ktunaxa, Sinixt, and Syilx Nations. I also carry with me the years I lived in Treaty 7 territory, in places known to some as Canmore and Calgary. A connection to Mountains, especially the Mountains of the Mînî Thnî and Ktunaxa peoples, informs both my personal and professional life.

Story

My work lives at the intersection of Indigenous education, community facilitation, and personal transformation. Continuing for more than a decade, I’ve supported educators, organizations, and communities in dismantling colonial barriers and creating spaces for meaningful, land-based, and anti-racist learning. Whether in classrooms, community circles, or co-creative research spaces, I am committed to Indigenous education as a pathway for justice—supporting Indigenous leadership and thriving through relationship, reflection, and climate action.

As a Yasodhara Yoga teacher and long-time student of spiritual inquiry, I bring a holistic approach to my work—grounded in presence, curiosity, and care. My facilitation style is reflective and intentional, shaped by a deep love of learning, a strong sense of responsibility, and a belief in the power of authentic connection.

When I’m not in workshops or working alongside community, you can find me cross-country skiing, paddling in a dragon boat, hiking with my doggo, or swimming in the turquoise waters of Kalamalka Lake. I adore the wondrous presence of birds, the cheery note of a yellow warbler, and spending time with my partner in the kitchen.
