Julie Bremner

Based on the traditional and unceded territories of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, and Syilx peoples, Julie (she/her) serves as a leadership coach for Youth Climate Corps BC.  She works with program coordinators to support their personal leadership progressions. Julie believes in empowering young leaders and finds joy in facilitating spaces where folks can find and hone their own authentic leadership styles.

Story

For the past couple decades Julie has taught and coached leadership in outdoor and experiential settings. Working all over the world, often in remote settings, Julie has supported individuals and teams to work effectively, communicate, and grow through challenging circumstances. Empowering individuals to see themselves in leadership roles energizes her. Inspired by the dedicated and important work of YCC crews and coordinators, Julie is grateful and excited to play a supporting role in setting these teams up for success.

An enthusiastic life long learner, Julie holds a Masters degree in Global Leadership and is working on a PhD in Education. Her research has centered on supporting experiential educators working to decolonize their practice and foster more inclusive and equitable spaces. Julie also serves as the Vice Chair of the Kootenay Lake School District Board of Education, where she strives to apply decolonizing and equity oriented lenses to the governance of local public education, including recent work on a district wide climate action policy.

A throughline for Julie has always been a deep connection to the environment. Julie enjoys various outdoor activities that require slow, human powered travel over land or water and provide her the best space to think and recenter. These days she's happily rooted in Nelson, BC where she's finding tremendous happiness in cultivating community, growing a garden, and raising her young daughter. Seeing her daughter learn and grow with the seasons reminds her of the value of curiosity and wonder.

I'm always looking for new and compelling opportunities. Let's connect. info@youthclimatecorps.com

We are committed to maintaining and growing respectful relationships in every region where we work.

YCCBC recognizes that colonization has deeply disrupted Indigenous Peoples’ relationships with their lands, communities, and cultural practices. We understand that the climate crisis is rooted in ongoing systems of colonialism and resource extraction—systems that became possible through the dispossession of Indigenous Peoples from their homelands.

We believe that Indigenous sovereignty is essential to building just futures and liveable worlds. YCCBC is committed to listening, learning, and walking in solidarity with Indigenous communities and to supporting Indigenous-led climate action across the province.

ABOUT US

Youth Climate Corps BC develops the climate leaders of tomorrow by training a workforce of young people who know how to work together, communicate powerfully, and get things done on projects that contribute to climate resilience in communities across British Columbia.
